Collaborations are going to help mankind in making better, interesting and sustainable future for the generations to come. To catch up with the pace with which the world is advancing, there is an essential need of collaborations between individuals, ideas, companies and nations. Collab House as it’s name indicates, is a place for collaborations and a hub for connected communities. We are one of the most active makerspaces in the country while making amazing stuff in collaboration with other communities.

On 15th of June 2016, as Collab House celebrated it’s second anniversary, our team planned to set up an interactive art installation which binds and blends Art, Architecture, Electronics and Technology together. To celebrate the 2 years of Making,  our team, Vineel, Harsha and Akshay along with Himanshu (Banana House ~Makerspace in Delhi), Prasan Dutt (Mooshic Labs, Electronics product developers) has setup the installation on interactive art and electronics, surprising the people present for the party.

“A designer is an emerging synthesis of artist, inventor, mechanic, objective economist and evolutionary strategist” –R. Buckminster Fuller

With the objective of pushing ourselves together to do more with the existing resources, we have committed to make an attractive and simple design which motivates makers and entertains others.

The concept of the model is to make interesting sounds when there is a human interaction with the boxes, the interaction happening through water closes an electronics circuit while creating a unique sound with each box. The boxes are filled with water and simple touch on the surface of water closes the circuit making interesting sounds. The water acts as a slab of capacitance with the 2 capacitor plates being the bottom of the box and the person’s hand/palm/fingers.

The curiosity about design and technology has created an excitement for our communities to make things out of simple electronics yet sophisticated architecture and aesthetics. We are an ideologically elevated team challenged with the motto of building incredible things while focusing at the paining problems of the society. The concurrency in the alignment of our goals is the factor behind our amazing team to get things done, with out an excuse.

The term ‘perfection’ is demoralising, hence we strive for ‘excellence’, since it is a motivating factor for every one of our community. There is no boundary for us when we try to excel, since we set new standards while making things. Perfection puts a cap on our standards, restricting us from breaking things and accepting failures.

The soldering and stuff

Some serious, circuit integration stuff.

We have considered many ways to make this happen, while only the final one happened, the obstacles, the circuit breakdown, the soldering not going through, the arduino break down, and the nearing of deadline, nothing could stop us form making this amazingly cool installation marking its elegance at the party. The curious crowd, asking us on how we did this, we could say, it is a team work. Presented by a team of connected communities.

Since its inception in 2011, April 9 has been observed by a niche audience as global IoT Day in honor of the “Internet of Things,” which is projected to comprise some 50 billion connected devices by 2020.

According to organisers at the IoT Council: “Anyone is free to create an IoT Day event in your local community. It doesn’t matter whether you are participating from an entrepreneur, engineer, industrial designer or novice perspective: the events will offer different types of activities tailored to local audiences form around the world. The time is now to start having the important conversations on the technologies, security, data privacy and enormous potential that an ‘Internet of Things’ is capable of.”

Collab House is a hub of activity in the city for IoT and hardware related stuff. Collab House hosted the first ever ‘IoT day’ in India, bringing together most prominent maker/hacker communities in the city on to a single platform for networking and collaborations. Hardware communities like Hackster, iRaspberryPi, Potential labs, Maker Club, Firefox Connected Devices, Arduino Community  have come together to demonstrate their products and share their insights regarding the present global trends of ‘Internet of Things’. The hall was reverberating with talks and discussions on the cutting edge technologies and the projects that they are working on. When people people shared their vision on making the society a better place to live while connecting the global communities through connected devices, other members in the hall had put together their hands to help them.

Collab House plays a vital role in supporting tech related initiatives in the city. There is a reason for people to sort for and collaborate with Collab House, to host a technology event in the city. Mozilla community Hyderabad being the most active open community in the city has come down to Collab House to host the first ever event on Firefox Open Web Apps and Firefox OS TV.

About Firefox OS TV:

Firefox OS for TV is not just a phone operating system on a bigger screen. It’s a whole new experience that brings television to life and gives the users a new level of choice and control.

About Open Web Apps:

Open Web Apps are essentially no different than standard websites or Web pages. They are built using standard open Web technologies — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc. — and can be accessed using a Web browser. The main differences lie in their ability to be installed on a device and work offline, and access to advanced APIs that allow interaction with device features such as the camera, address book, and other such things. In addition, they are built on open technologies as much as is possible. Where differences lie in technology implementation between platforms, efforts should be made to ensure that both are supported, through a combination of feature detection and appropriate code for different platforms, and graceful degradation.

Firefox OS – Fast track to IoT. #ConnectedDevices

IMG_3880Openness has always been the primary motto for Collab House to collaborate with a community, being the most open community in terms of their products and even projects, Mozilla has been one of the indispensable communities housed at our space. Mozilla has released numerous products Viz. Firefox Browser, Firefox OS. etc all of which are open sourced.

With respect to the recent updates on the new project that Mozilla has initiated, to penetrate in to ‘Internet of Things’ space (Project ‘Connected Devices’), Collab House in association with Mozilla Hyderabad community has held an event focusing on Developer boards like Raspberry Pi and Arduino and also the advantages of using Firefox OS to run these programmable boards.

IMG_3908

Harsha Vardhan and Ram Dayal Vaishnav has been part of the Summits held by Mozilla, where the new project of ‘Connected Devices’ has been rolled out. They were trained to campaign into and teach their local community members on the recent advancements and projects of Mozilla. In association with Mozilla Hyderabad Community, Collab House has successfully housed a session cum workshop on Connected Devices.

The event started off with the basics of ‘Internet of Things’ by Prasan Dutt, Curriculum trainer and mentor at Maker Club( Maker and IoT community incubated at Collab House). He explained about how the whole world could be connected and accessed via web. The concept of automating every day activities was well delivered to the audience.
